Orthodontics
Braces to straighten teeth, for children, teenagers and adults.
What it is
Crooked teeth are not only about looks: they are harder to clean and can make chewing harder. Orthodontics corrects the position of the teeth and the way they meet. It is the area in which we follow the most patients at Tágides.
How it works
- 1
Orthodontic assessment
Photos, X-rays and impressions to study the case.
- 2
Plan
We explain the type of brace, the expected length and the cost.
- 3
Treatment
Regular appointments, usually once a month, to adjust the brace.
- 4
Retention
At the end, a retainer keeps the teeth in place.
Frequently asked questions
At what age should the first visit be?
Around age 7. At that age it is still possible to guide how the jaws grow and avoid more complex treatment later.
Is there an age limit for braces?
No. Adults can have treatment too, as long as their gums and bone are healthy.
How long does treatment take?
Usually 18 to 36 months. It depends on the case and on keeping appointments and caring for the teeth at home.
Do braces hurt?
You may feel some pressure in the first few days. This is normal and usually passes quickly.
This information does not replace an appointment. Results vary from person to person and depend on the dentist's assessment.
